Field Notes
Newport Note
Agate Beach has some of the deepest minus tides on the Oregon coast — reaching −2.7 ft in June. Exceptional clamming June 13–18.
Summer Peak
Unlike northern beaches, Newport's best clamming is June through August with deep morning minus tides. Plan your trip accordingly.
Best Window
Arrive 1–2 hours before low tide. The lower the number, the more beach exposed and the better the dig.
What to Bring
Clam gun or shovel, mesh bag, ODFW license, rubber boots. Check local gear restrictions before heading out.
